A La Heart Full Heart Hack

A La Heart (click here to buy) is a favorite around here.  It’s full of vintage sentimental charm and absolutely PERFECT for Valentines day.  It’s already packed with options like a tulip skirt, shorts romper, gathered skirt, or full circle mini skirt, but I’m going to add one more option to it!

Here is how to take your regular bib to full heart.

First off, you’ll want to extend the heart.  Just get your straight edge and continue the angle of the bib on both sides until it intersects.  That’s your new cut line, remember to cut on the fold!  Mark where the waist cutline used to be.  You’ll use this later to line things up.

Now you follow the directions in the tutorial as stated, but you may wish to add some length to your ruffle if you want it to remain as full.  If you don’t mind a little less fullness, carry on.  At step 10, you’ll want to change it up a little bit.

Be sure to roll up your straps so that they don’t get caught in the seam!  Sew all around the bib as show above, leaving about a 2″ gap for turning.

Continue with the tutorial as written until step 12.  You can skip this step and at step 13, just sew the waistbands together without the bib.  You’ll essentially be making a completely separate skirt.  Be sure to mark that center notch on the outside so you can line up the bib later.

Once the skirt is finished, find the center mark and line that up with the point in your bib.  Use the original horizontal cut line and line it up with the top of the skirt.

Edge stitch the bib in place where it overlaps the skirt.

And you’re finished!  Just in time for Valentine’s Day!
